Updates & Data Security
This page explains how BookKeep is updated, and how your data is stored and protected.
Updates
Check for updates
| Client | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| The Android app | "Me → Settings → Check for updates" |
| The desktop app | "Settings → Check for updates" |
| The web app | No updates needed — refreshing the page gives you the latest version |
Check results
| Result | Description |
|---|---|
| Up to date | Nothing to do |
| New version found | The new version number and release notes are shown; confirm to download and install |
| Forced update | You must update before you can keep using it; usually important fixes |
What release notes include
New feature notes, bug fix descriptions, and improvement records, so you can quickly see what changed in the version.
Updating doesn't touch your data
Entry data is stored on the server; a client update only replaces the app itself, and your data is unaffected.
Data security
Where your data is stored
All entries and settings are stored on the server, and the three clients share one account with real-time sync. After switching devices or reinstalling, just sign in to restore everything.
Data export & backup
BookKeep provides a data export feature that exports all of your data as a JSON backup file, so you always own your data. Recommendations:
- Export a backup regularly and keep it somewhere you trust
- Export once before making large batch changes
- A backup file contains your personal entry information — keep it safe and don't share it casually
Device & sign-in security
- Check your trusted devices and login history regularly in the Security Center
- Unbind devices you no longer use in time
- After using a public computer, remember to sign out, and don't check "remember password" options
- The desktop app stores login credentials in the
.bk-desktopfolder of your local user directory — don't share that folder with anyone
Privacy tips
- Cover sensitive personal information before sharing screenshots
- Use a strong, unique password — don't reuse passwords from other sites
