Quick Start
This page walks you through the first three steps of bookkeeping: recording your first entry, getting to know the home page, and setting your first budget. It takes about five minutes.
Step 1: Record your first entry
- On the home page, tap "Record an entry" (on the Android app, the "+" button at the bottom right)
- Pick the top-level category (expense / income / other), then the specific category — for example "Dining"
- Enter the amount
- Add more details as needed: date (today by default), ledger, tags, note
- Save, and you're done
The entry page also offers a few handy toggles — turn them on as needed:
| Toggle | What it does |
|---|---|
| Exclude from income & expenses | The entry only shows up in the transaction list and is left out of income / expense statistics — for transfers, internal moves, and the like |
| Exclude from budget | The entry does not use up this month's budget — for non-spending outlays such as investments or loan repayments |
| Star | Mark an entry as important so it's easier to find later |
| Discounted price | Enter the original price and the discount, and the amount actually paid is calculated for you |
Step 2: Get to know the home page
The home page is the one you'll open most often:
- Income & expense overview: this month's income, expenses, and balance (income − expenses), plus how they changed from last month
- Estimated spending: this month's total spending, projected from your average daily spending over the last 180 days — know where you stand before the month ends
- Budget and remaining: this month's total budget and how much is left
- Health score: the entry point to your current income & expense health score — tap it for details
- Calendar: see each day's entries by date
- Heatmap: a full year of recording intensity — the more consistently you record, the "hotter" it gets
- Trend: income, expenses, and balance over the last 12 periods
Step 3: Set this month's budget
- Open the "Expense budget" page and select this month
- Tap "Add budget", enter the amount, and save
- From then on, the home page and the budget page both show "used / remaining", and you get a prominent alert when spending gets close to or exceeds the budget
Start with the few categories you use most
You don't have to get fine-grained about every category right away. Record a full month first, then look at "Spending profile" and "Income & expense insights" to see where most of your money goes, and set separate budgets for the biggest categories — that works best.
